About Leonard Cheshire
Leonard Cheshire are supporting individuals to live, learn and work as independently as they choose, whatever their ability. Led by people with experience of disability, we are at the heart of local life – opening doors to opportunity, choice, and support in communities.
Our vision as an organisation is to enable people within the community who live with a disability or /and are socially isolated by creating inclusive and accessible services, activities, and projects.
Our volunteering projects:
Virtual activity groups
We currently host a variety of virtual activities via Zoom. Including: Art club, Travel stories chat group, Wheelchair dance, Seated yoga, Film and TV chat groups, Discover and create chat group, Pets corner club.
Discover & Connect groups
We host weekly telephone/virtual friendship groups and monthly face to face, as the project progresses, we aim to set up more groups throughout the South west of England, promoting wellness-based activities. Enabling people to connect with others within their local community and the surrounding areas.
Awareness and Discovery trails
Our wellbeing trails are accessible and inclusive to all. These trails highlight accessible activities and venues as well as nature, history, and local points of interest. To link with the trails, we are setting up inclusive creative projects inspired by their findings during the trails. Participates can be supported by a buddy volunteer as requested.
Enabling people to enhance their wellbeing and give them the independence they choose. Supporting them with day to day tasks, learn new skills and getting out and about.
Gardening within our care homes
We are currently recruiting gardeners for our Dorchester, Weymouth and Penzance care homes, our service users all live with learning disabilities and have complex care needs.
We seek general helpers and admin volunteers for our projects, events, and fundraising.
